Site survey - to begin with

Hello all, I am building a project to startup a local, maybe rural, WISP, which can give 100Mbps at a more competitive price.

Once I made the first site survey and imported the 3D mapping in some kind of GIS data, are there software to simulate antenna placing, evaluating LOS and Fresnel zone, and the more parameters the better?

After that, once the antenna are mounted, what´s the best free or cheap software to make a site survey to test the effective parameters on field?

Also, for who had experience. Which cost should I expect in approximately for installation and tower renting? What about paying for a survey?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
Sorry for the late reply, but lockdown (everyone’s excuse) is still around, so not much time as we are working like bees in a hive due to the restrictions. But in regards to your question:
Firstly there is a built-in site survey in almost any #gear:ubiquiti AP. If you are looking at 5ghz networks and you will consider r5ac-gen2 access spoint then as soon as you connect any antenna (preferably 90 or 120deg sector) you will be able to see all the channels, their strengths, etc. Similar approach with the #gear:mikrotik devices, we usually use mants52s dual frequency AP cause it can do both 2.4 and 5ghz. So that is for free and built-in into the devices. For LOS and fresnel, signals, etc use airlink
As for renting the towers, it’s pricing etc, it all depends on location.

Hope it helps a bit.
